The Aran Islands, Ireland.

The numbing boredom of life on Inishmaan - populated by misfits and miscreants - is shattered when Hollywood decides to make a film on the neighbouring island of Inishmore.

Young orphan Billy - crippled, twisted and unloved - determines to be part of the film and as news of Billy's ambition ripples through the news-starved community events take turns both comic and sinister.
